Just a scenic two-hour drive from Timaru and about an hour from Twizel, this event brings together a wide mix of competitors, from seasoned pros to enthusiastic newcomers. It’s a true showcase of Kiwi sailing spirit.
From Humble Beginnings to a Full Weekend of Racing
Originally a one-day Sunday event, the regatta featured a single mass start across all divisions—a breathtaking sight that still stuns spectators. As interest grew, so did the event. Now, racing spans Friday through Sunday, offering more opportunities for competition and camaraderie.
We’re proud to announce that the 2025 Aviemore Classic will host the Noelex 25 South Island Championships, adding even more prestige to an already iconic weekend.
This Labour Weekend—Friday 24th to Sunday 26th October—marks the 37th edition of the Aviemore Classic. The atmosphere is famously social and welcoming, yet fiercely competitive on the water.
At the heart of it all is Tent City, a marquee hub where sailors gather for hot meals, cold drinks, and plenty of good-natured banter. Facilities include hot showers and cooking areas, making it easy to relax and recharge. The Tent City crew also hosts BBQ dinners on Friday and Saturday nights, to raise funds for local Emergency Response Teams and Coast Guard—whose support ensures everyone gets home safely.
